Ohio has long faced a dental care shortage, with low-income and minority communities being hit the hardest. In an effort to address these issues, the MolinaCares Accord—the charitable arm of Molina Healthcare Inc.—committed $1.2 million to CWRU School of Dental Medicine in 2020 for student scholarships, with a primary goal of increasing the number of dentists from Black communities and other minority populations. Scholarship recipients are expected to practice dental medicine in underserved areas of Ohio following graduation.
