Marie Zakrzewska

One of the first six women to receive a medical degree from Western Reserve College and one of four in the Class of 1856, Marie Zakrzewska had a midwifery background and advocated for feminist and abolitionist causes.

She partnered with alumna Emily Blackwell to found the New York Infirmary for Women in 1857, which was the first hospital run by women for the care of women and children.
