Sarah Ann Chadwick was one of the first six women to receive medical degrees from Western Reserve College, and one of four to graduate in 1856 under the leadership of Dean John Delamater. She went on to serve one year tending to injured Civil War troops, then marrying and retiring from the field of medicine.
