At Case Western Reserve University, researchers work tirelessly to solve pressing problems in ways that improve people’s lives and the world around us. With the creation of the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building (ISEB), faculty, staff, postdocs and students alike will able to take this work even further.
Designed to break down disciplinary silos, the ISEB will set the stage for collaborative discovery and innovation in areas such as climate change, artificial intelligence, sustainable manufacturing and materials science. Valued at $300 million, the ISEB is the university’s largest-ever Case Quad project—and its impact is only beginning.
“Research and community engagement are two of the university’s highest priorities. This initiative represents an unprecedented step forward in both areas. It will be transformative.” – President Eric W. Kaler
Next Steps
The ISEB is set to open in the fall of 2026, which is the university’s bicentennial anniversary. Upon completion, this 189,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art research hub will house dedicated research and lab space for researchers from the College of Arts and Sciences, Case School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, and selected others.
More than 60 principal investigators and their teams are expected to work in the building, for an anticipated occupancy of about 500. Students at all levels will be heavily involved in research efforts, benefiting from a truly state-of-the-future academic experience.
