Case Western Reserve University School of Law’s Law-Medicine Center has been ranked among the top eight health law programs in the country by preLaw magazine, earning an A+ rating. As the oldest health law program in the United States, the center has a long history of preparing students to tackle the complex challenges facing the medical and legal professions.
Founded in 1953, the Law-Medicine Center offers an extensive curriculum covering all areas of health law, from corporate firm practice to bioethics and medical malpractice advocacy. First-year students can begin exploring health law early by choosing a relevant first-year elective course and engaging in many extra-curricular activities.
The center’s faculty members are renowned for their expertise and involvement in shaping health care policy at the local, state, and national levels. Their commitment to student success extends beyond the classroom, with an emphasis on mentorship and accessibility.
“We’re proud that the hard work of our faculty and students was recognized by preLaw magazine and look forward to continuing to educate the next generation of highly competent health care lawyers,” said co-director Sharona Hoffman.
Located within a university with a top-ranked medical school and hospital, the Law-Medicine Center provides unparalleled interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Students can pursue dual degrees in law and fields such as bioethics, public health, management and social work. The law school is also close to multiple major hospital systems—Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Louis Stokes VA Medical Center, and MetroHealth Medical Center —which provide ample opportunities to work and learn in hospital legal environments.
Our graduates build successful careers across all realms of health care law. They work in law firms, corporate settings, federal and state government entities, think tanks and more.
