2L Summer Husein and Maya Simek, Director of the Human Trafficking Clinic, recently co-authored an article on human trafficking in the latest edition of the Cincinnati Bar Association Report. The piece challenges common misconceptions about human trafficking, encouraging readers to look beyond common stereotypes of international crime rings, physical confinement and abduction. By focusing on the broader factors that contribute to human trafficking in the United States, Husein and Simek shed light on a more nuanced understanding of this issue within our own borders.

"Co-authoring this article with my Supervising Attorney and Human Trafficking Clinic Director Maya Simek was an honor," commented Husein. "I learned so much about the realm of human-trafficking this past summer and all the different socio-political systems that go into combating human trafficking. Maya was an amazing mentor who ensured that I was able to learn and grow. From getting real-world experience by going to outreach centers and researching in the Clinic, helping write this article was a perfect product of all I learned. If you have a moment I urge you to read the article as the "whole-person" perspective on holistic needs is a concept that goes beyond human trafficking and helping people meet their whole-person holistic needs is a form of preventive lawyering that should be discussed more."

The article can be found on pages 5-7 of the report.
