New Leadership for University Hospitals Neurological Institute

As University Hospitals' first Institute enters its tenth year serving patients, we are pleased to announce that neurosurgeon Nicholas C Bambakidis, MD, has been appointed to succeed Dr. Warren Selman as Director of the UH Neurological Institute.

The UH NI has known tremendous success in its first 10 years under the strong leadership of Dr. Selman. He and Dr. Anthony Furlan will work closely with Dr. Bambakidis who, in his new role as director, will be responsible for the development and implementation of the NI’s comprehensive operations strategy. Dr. Selman will remain Chairman of Neurosurgery and Neurosurgeon-in-Chief.

This transition, effective immediately, will allow the Neurological Institute to continue its evolution through the promotion of a dynamic emerging leader, who will have the support and guidance of two experienced chairmen dedicated to the endeavor’s ongoing success.

Dr. Bambakidis is recognized as an international leader in his field. He has published more than 100 articles and book chapters as well as three textbooks and has led innovative initiatives related to intracerebral bypass surgery for the treatment of brain aneurysms and vascular malformations and neurointerventional endovascular surgery. He has leadership experience in many professional neurological societies, including the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the largest neurosurgical professional society in the world. He is also a graduate of the UH Leadership Academy.

Drs. Selman and Furlan will introduce Dr. Bambakidis in his new role at the Neurological Institute Leadership Council on Monday, June 20.
