STORY BY: EDITORIAL STAFF

In just a few short weeks, we’ll be welcoming new and returning Case Western Reserve University students to campus for the 2025–26 academic year. After a quiet summer, faculty and staff look forward to the increase in activity.

Whether you’re soaking up the last few weeks of summer or want to explore some of the best our city has to offer, check out these three things to do across Cleveland in August.

Cuyahoga River Rally

Aug. 9

The Cuyahoga River earned a notable place in history when a 1969 fire on its surface spurred environmental action. Today, it is far removed from the oil fires that once plagued it and is instead the site of recreational watersports, riverside attractions and more.

Clevelanders can celebrate the river’s renewal during the Cuyahoga River Rally Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hart Crane Memorial Park. The free event will feature opportunities to get out on the water, cleanup efforts, kid-friendly activities, live music, walking and biking tours, and more.

A River Rally Festival Village will give locals the opportunity to meet with representatives from several water- and environmental-related organizations, such as the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, Cleveland Metroparks, Ohio EPA and Dragon Boat Association.

Beachland Flea

Aug. 10

Looking to find the perfect piece to tie your room together on campus for the ultimate dorm room glow-up? Stop by the Beachland Flea Sunday, Aug. 10, for artwork that will make your on-campus space feel like home.

Not in the market for a decor upgrade? The Beachland Flea also will have retro clothing for your wardrobe upgrade, vinyl records to fill your music library out, and more. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Beachland Ballroom in the artistic Waterloo neighborhood.

Entrance is free. Get more details about the event.

One World Day

Aug. 24

Whether you’re new to Cleveland or a lifelong resident, One World Day is a must-attend event. Held in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens, this annual festival is a long-standing tradition that celebrates the many cultures shaping our city.

The 79th annual event will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Martin Luther King Jr. and East Boulevards.

Guests will have the opportunity to explore the 36 public gardens in Rockefeller Park and engage in cultural activities. A Parade of Flags will kick off at noon, with cultural performances, children’s activities, opportunities to taste international food and live music taking place throughout the event.
