Become a Spoken English Language Programs tutor

Spoken English Language Programs (SELP) at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Graduate Studies is looking for undergraduate students to fill paid positions as Spoken English Language Program tutors for spring semester 2026 and beyond.

In this role, tutors will meet one-on-one online or in-person in 30- or 60-minute blocks with international undergraduate, graduate and professional students and scholars at CWRU. Tutors will also help students and scholars prepare for presentations, interviews and other formal and informal speaking situations, and practice aspects of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, idioms or general English language practice.

Those interested in becoming a SELP tutor must have native or high-level English-language proficiency and demonstrate familiarity with U.S. academic and social cultures. Tutors must also be able to offer consistent blocks of time throughout the semester, including five to 10 hours per week for 13 weeks. Experience in tutoring, language learning or teaching is highly valued but not required.

Those selected as tutors will be trained on effective communication with international students and visitors. Except for paid meetings and training, the amount of work each week will be contingent on tutor/tutee usage and scheduled at the employees’ convenience.
