Biology's Elliot Gardner says collaborating with Indigenous communities supports biodiversity preservation
Working together, Indigenous peoples and researchers describe new Amazonian palm
South Africa Today: Elliot Gardner, botanist and assistant professor of biology, confirmed that collaboration with Indigenous communities contributes to biodiversity preservation. “This collaboration allows for the scientific description and naming of new species, and that is the first step to getting a species protected. If a species does not have a scientific name, no one is going to pay attention to it," said Gardner.
