Complete annual tax analysis for international employees

International faculty and staff members, scholars and student employees who are considered a “nonresident alien” for tax purposes must complete a tax analysis with the Case Western Reserve University Visa and Immigration Services and Advisors (VISA) Office. This analysis will determine whether they are eligible for tax treaty benefits or other exemptions. Without this analysis, taxes may be withheld at an incorrect rate.

As eligibility may change year to year, the VISA Office encourages individuals to complete a new tax analysis annually until they become a “resident” for tax purposes.

If you completed a tax analysis in Sprintax last year, please log into your account and complete a new analysis for 2026. If you are a new employee at CWRU or did not complete a tax analysis in 2025, please email the VISA Office at visa@case.edu to gain access to the system.

If you require personal tax help, believe your tax issue cannot be handled online or by phone and would like face-to-face assistance, visit an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) taxpayer assistance center to speak with a representative in person. Before visiting your local office, check to see what services are available, as services may vary from site to site. Please note that visitors may not be able to bring cell phones with camera capabilities.

To learn more about international tax resources, visit the VISA Office’s website, call 216.368.6964 or email visa@case.edu. Visa Office staff are not tax professionals or accountants and cannot assist with personal taxation questions. International staff, faculty, scholars, and students are encouraged to do their own research regarding tax preparation services and U.S. tax regulations prior to filing their tax returns.
