Discover new AI tools available in Canvas and Echo360

CAMPUS + COMMUNITY | August 27, 2025
STORY BY: EDITORIAL STAFF

This fall, new artificial intelligence (AI) tools are available in Canvas and Echo360 to members of the Case Western Reserve University community: Smart Search, Discussions Summary and AskEcho.

About Smart Search

Smart Search queries written content in Canvas for users to search and provides results with direct links to that content. Content that is searchable includes Canvas pages, announcements, discussion prompts, and assignment descriptions. Smart Search is available to all users within a Canvas course, but must be enabled as a feature option and on the course navigation by the course instructor.

About Discussions Summary

Available to instructors and teaching assistants, Discussion Summary can be used to summarize discussion forums. Users can enter topics of focus for the summary to concentrate on, or pose questions about Discussions in Canvas. To get started, enable Discussions Summary as a feature option in your course.

About AskEcho

A new instructor-focused tool, AskEcho is available for use with Echo360 content and can create video chapters, generate video titles and add tags for video organization. Instructors must proactively apply AskEcho to individual videos before any AI content will be available. For more information, see the AskEcho Instructor Guide.
