Does your work relate to cancer and social injustices? Submit your abstract for the Cancer Disparities Symposium

The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and Office of Cancer Disparities Research will host the second annual Cancer Disparities Symposium, titled “Taking it to the Streets: Where Cancer Disparities Research and Community Intersect," Friday, March 23. The symposium will bring together researchers, scholars, educators, trainees, community agencies and organizations to enhance understanding and address cancer disparities in the community. Abstract submissions are being accepted now through Jan. 5. Abstracts should be entered in one of two areas: academic science and community.

Academic science

Researchers, scholars, educators, organizations and trainees can submit abstracts to highlight both scientific and community programs on topics related to cancer disparities. This symposium will provide a forum to showcase the breadth and depth of this work. For this call, cancer-related disparities refer to adverse differences in the presence of disease, risk factors, health outcomes and/or access to quality health care in the United States—all with social injustice as a root cause. Symposium organizers also welcome disparity-focused research and community programs based in all population groups stratified by race/ethnicity, age, sex or gender, sexual orientation, national origin, immigrant status, health status, disability or language spoken. The goal is to build community among multidisciplinary researchers, health care systems, government-based programs, foundation initiatives, grassroots organizations, not-for-profit organizations, and other stakeholders to focus on the fine work being conducted, resources for community members, and inspire collaborations and innovative future directions.

Community

This call for abstracts seeks health care systems, government-based programs, foundation initiatives, grassroots organizations, not-for-profit organizations, and other stakeholders who provide resources for community benefit.
