Faculty: Apply for 2014 Active Learning Fellowship by April 18

Information Technology Services (ITS) is soliciting stipend-eligible Active Learning Fellowship proposals from faculty for fall. The Active Learning Fellowship has been designed by ITS in collaboration with the provost's office to provide faculty with the resources and support they need to transform a class they will be teaching in the 2014-2015 academic calendar to be taught in one of the new active learning spaces.

Expectations

Faculty who are awarded the fellowship are expected to develop or redesign a semester-long course to maximize active-learning pedagogies and integrates these into the course curriculum. Faculty must deliver that course in the 2014-2015 academic year, participate in a learning community, participate in assessment of the course and commit to delivering the course at least one more time in the next two years. To be considered for the fellowship, faculty members must attend informational sessions July 14-18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Attendance is required at all sessions.

Benefits

Faculty who participate in the fellowship will implement active learning strategies and relevant academic technologies in a course to integrate collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving in a student-centered learning environment. They will receive assistance with the assessment of effectiveness of the utilized techniques and will receive priority scheduling for use of the newly updated and remodeled classroom spaces. A stipend will be awarded for each faculty member who participates in the active learning fellowship program. Applications are due on Friday, April 18, at 5 p.m. Any faculty member with a continuing appointment may apply.
