Football game

The Case Western Reserve University football team will host Saint Vincent College Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. as a part of the homecoming weekend festivities. The Spartans are coming of their first loss of the season Saturday against Washington & Jefferson College. In addition to the action on the field during homecoming, the Spartans will recognize its seven new inductees into the Spartan Club Hall of Fame at halftime:

• Esther Erb Atkins (CWR '08) and Aaron Johnston-Peck (CWR ’07) of the cross country and track and field teams;
• Lauren Erickson (Preyss) (CWR '07) and Pat Rodjom (CWR ’07) of the swimming and diving teams;
• Santo Maimone IV (CWR '06) of the football team;
• Heritage Inductee John Davin (CIT '60) of the basketball and golf teams; and
• Special Category Inductee M. Frank Rudy (CIT '50).

The 2007-09 CWRU football teams also will be recognized during the first quarter break, while the 1968 PAC Championship Western Reserve baseball team will be honored in between the third and fourth quarters.

Homecoming football history

In recent years, homecoming has been a boost for the Spartans on the field, with the team winning this game in nine of the past 11 years, including each of the last four years. The majority of the Spartans’ recent wins on homecoming have been one-sided, with eight of the nine victories over the last 10 years being decided by at least two touchdowns. These wins include a 63-14 win over Hiram College Oct. 24, 2009—marking the second-most points scored in a game in CWRU history—and a 33-3 win over Bethany College last season. There was one close homecoming victory for for CWRU in the last decade: a 24-23 win over Allegheny College in 2010 decided by a blocked kick in overtime by former Spartan Jacob Adams. The overtime victory extended the Spartans’ stretch of consecutive regular season wins to 35, a streak that eventually reached 38 games, the longest in the program’s history.
