Members of Case Western Reserve University School of Law’s Black Law Student Association (BLSA) Mock Trial Team recently earned first place at the Midwest Regional Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition regional championship. Those on the team were Doctor of Law (JD) candidates Jordyn Dawson, Lydia Abraham, Angelina Booher and Karthi Srikanth, who won all of their rounds.

CWRU’s defense team, made up of Booher and Srikanth, opened the tournament against Creighton University. The prosecution team of Dawson and Abraham followed with a decisive victory over CWRU’s second team. After the first two preliminary rounds, the team earned the No. 1 seed heading into the knockout stage.

In the quarterfinals, CWRU’s defense team advanced with a hard-fought win over Northern Illinois University. The prosecution team carried the momentum into the semifinals, defeating the University of Illinois Chicago. In the final round, the defense team closed out the tournament, defeating Loyola University Chicago to secure the regional title and earn a ticket to the national championship.

CWRU’s second team also competed with determination and resilience throughout the weekend. This team included JD candidates Jannai Ahadzi and Miles Griffin on defense and Amajah Hall and Boimah Jallah on prosecution.

While this team did not advance to nationals, Hall and Jallah earned Best Prosecution Team across the entire competition.
