The Atlantic: Joan Burda, adjunct professor of law, discussed the jumble of complicated and unexpected logistical tasks that can arise when a loved one dies. When it comes to items of little personal or monetary value, jumping the gun on probate is rarely a problem, she said, but added that prematurely making off with cherished or expensive items can lead to legal trouble down the road.
