Low nitric oxide linked to faster Alzheimer’s decline

Cleveland Plain Dealer: Jonathan Stamler, president and co-founder of the Harrington Discovery Institute at UH and Distinguished University Professor, said Alzheimer's patients have lower nitric oxide levels, reducing gene-splicing activity and accelerating plaque buildup and memory loss. He said the findings overturn the long-held belief that excess nitric oxide contributes to Alzheimer's and point to potential new treatment targets.
