Mathematics’ Erkki Somersalo named a Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics fellow
Erkki Somersalo, professor in the Department of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, was named a 2026 Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) fellow. Members of this distinguished class were nominated in recognition of their outstanding research and service to the community.
Through various contributions, SIAM fellows form a crucial group of individuals who help to advance the fields of applied mathematics and computational and data science.
Somersalo was recognized for his contributions in applied and computational mathematics, including:
- Electromagnetism;
- Bayesian inverse problems;
- Uncertainty quantification;
- Data science, and mathematical modeling.
