STORY BY: EDITORIAL STAFF
Bijoya (Bijou) Basu, an MD-PhD candidate at Case Western Reserve University, was named a recipient of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Outstanding Scholars in Neuroscience Award Program (OSNAP). This is a national recognition sponsored by the NIH to identify and support exceptional early-career scientists in the field of neuroscience. The OSNAP award is given annually to a select group of graduate and postdoctoral trainees whose academic achievements, research excellence, and leadership potential mark them as future leaders in neuroscience and biomedical research.
Basu’s research focuses on the intersection of metabolism and brain function, where she has discovered new functions of the hormone asprosin. Her work spans both basic and clinical neuroscience and reflects a strong commitment to translational science and improving patient outcomes. Outside the lab, she is also an advocate for equitable healthcare through her involvement with Doctors for America.
As an OSNAP awardee, Basu will be invited to visit the NIH to present her work, engage directly with intramural investigators, and explore potential research collaborations. The award offers both recognition and mentorship opportunities, aimed at fostering the careers of outstanding young scientists. Basu’s selection underscores her dedication to advancing neurological science and her potential to make a lasting impact on the field.
