Nominated by his students, Jason Mears, PhD, Case CCC Molecular Oncology Program member, received the 2023 John S. Diekhoff Award for Graduate Mentoring.
The Diekhoff Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the education of graduate students through advising and classroom teaching. In 2009, it was expanded to recognize faculty members who excel in the mentoring of graduate students.
Mears understands his students come from diverse backgrounds and, as such, have unique needs. To best support them, he creates a learning environment in which students can thrive based on where they are in their scientific, academic, and personal development. This value-driven leadership creates a supportive and inclusive culture in the classroom and lab, and has earned Mears admiration from students and recognition from CWRU.
