Does blood sugar affect blood pressure? 

Health Central: Ian Neeland, associate professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, said high blood sugar can worsen high blood pressure by damaging and stiffening blood vessels, activating the sympathetic nervous system and increasing blood volume. He also noted hormones regulating blood sugar and blood pressure overlap, helping explain why diabetes and hypertension commonly occur together.
