Dayton Daily News: Susan Hatters-Friedman, the Phillip J. Resnick Professor of Forensic Psychiatry at the School of Medicine, stressed that mental illness doesn’t bar someone from trial—what matters is fairness. She explained defendants must understand the proceedings and work with their lawyer, noting many with conditions such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder still face trial if restored to competency.
