Medicine’s Walter Boron recognized by the Cell and Molecular Physiology Section of the American Physiological Society
Walter Boron, MD, PhD, Distinguished University Professor and the Myers/Scarpa Professor and chair of the Department of Physiology & Biophysics, was recently selected for the Davson Distinguished Lectureship. The lectureship is the highest honor awarded to a scientist who has made important contributions to the scientific fields represented by the Cell and Molecular Physiology Section (Cell) of the American Physiological Society.
Boron was selected for the honor for his research, which laid the foundation for understanding how cells sense and regulate pH.
As the editor and author of Medical Physiology—widely known as the Boron and Boulpaep textbook—Boron is responsible for helping educate generations of medical, graduate and physiology trainees. He also has served the society in a number of capacities and its journals as president of the American Physiological Society, secretary-general of the International Union of Physiological Sciences, and editor-in-chief of Physiological Reviews and Physiology.
Boron will receive the Davson Award at the Cell Section banquet and participate in other Cell Section programming at the American Physiology Summit in Denver in early April 2027.
