Nursing’s John Gallagher, medical student co-author research paper on using geospatial mapping software to offer Stop the Bleed training
John Gallagher, DNP, professor at Case Western Reserve University Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, and Daniela Schmulevich, Daniela Schmulevich, a student at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, recently co-authored an article published in Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open.
Alongside researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, the University of Rochester, the Medical University of South Carolina, Johns Hopkins University, their paper detailed their research on Stop the Bleed training. Their research was the first prospective study to use geographic information systems geospatial mapping software to identify urban hot spots for penetrating trauma and deliver such training in those locations.
Participants showed sustained improvement in bleeding control knowledge, skills, and willingness to intervene over time.
