JC Scharf-Deering, director of the Conflict of Interests Committee, and Tracy Wilson-Holden, assistant vice president for research integrity—both based in the Office of Research and Technology Management—recently wrote a chapter in the Handbook of Bioethical Decisions, Volume II.
Titled “Institutional Liability in Research,” the purpose of their chapter is to provide insight for investigators, researchers, ethics committee members and research administrators about the complex roles and responsibilities of academic research administration in protecting institutions, individuals, and ideas. The authors discuss consequences to institutions and individuals when there is a failure to engage in ethical and compliant research.
