Participate in the second annual RFB Programming Competition
Case Western Reserve University undergraduate students are invited to participate in the second annual RFB Programming Competition, with the chance to win up to $50,000.
Details and instructions
- All active Case Western Reserve University undergraduate students are eligible, regardless of major. CWRU ID required.
- Register by Friday, March 20, to receive instructions for the qualifying round.
- The qualifying round begins Monday, March 23, and concludes at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
- Contestants must solve several programming problems, ranging from easy to difficult, to qualify for finals.
- Up to 50 finalists will compete on Saturday, April 18, for a chance to win one of five cash prizes:
- $50,000 for first place
- $25,000 for second place
- $15,000 for third place
- $7,000 for fourth place
- $3,000 for fifth place
- Cash prizes are subject to federal and state regulations and may be taxable. Winning students will receive relevant information and resources.

About the sponsor
Known as the founder of Gmail, Paul Buchheit (CWR ’98; GRS ’98, computer engineering; HON ’12) is a computer engineer and entrepreneur with extensive experience in the technology industry. He has generously sponsored the RFB Programming Competition through Case School of Engineering in memory of his father, Bob.
Robert F. Buchheit (1938–2021) was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He spent the majority of his career at the Xerox Corporation in Webster, New York, until his retirement in 2005.
