Philosophy’s Jessica Wolfendale weighs in on torture and terroism across American history in new book
Jessica Wolfendale, professor of philosophy at Case Western Reserve University’s College of Arts and Sciences, recently published a new book—American Torture and American Terrorism: The Myth of American Decency— with Oxford University Press.
In her book, Wolfendale argues that torture and terrorism have been embedded in U.S. institutions since the nation’s founding, analyzing case studies including:
- Colonization
- Detention systems
- Police violence and
- Drone warfare while proposing victim-centered definitions of both practices.
