Register for the remote “Roots and resonance: Jewish life and art in Mexico” course
Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to register for the remote “Roots and resonance: Jewish life and art in Mexico” course, hosted by the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program.
In this course, participants will gain historical insight, cultural context—and hopefully—a deeper appreciation for the distinct and enduring story of Jews and art in Mexico.
The first session will trace the arrival of Jews during the Spanish Conquest, the formation of communities in the early 20th century and the development of today’s Mexican Jewish community.
In the second session, participants will explore major Mexican art movements–-such as muralism, surrealism and contemporary art—while highlighting major influential Jewish artists who helped shape them.
Taught by Sara Aroeste, PhD, art historian and regional director of Art Question International, this course will take place Tuesdays, May 26 to June 2, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
