To support Case Western Reserve University’s international engagement, earlier this year the Office of Compliance implemented a requirement to register international visitors from ITAR countries who will be physically present on CWRU premises or in university facilities.
An international visitor is an individual who has been invited or agreed to be hosted by CWRU, is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card holder), plans to be on CWRU premises for any period of time, and is not a CWRU student, exchange student, postdoc, or employee.
This requirement helps:
- Ensure responsible stewardship of university resources (including appropriate access to facilities and campus safety);
- Enable us to meet federal research and export control regulations; and
- Protect university intellectual property.
International visitors from ITAR countries—regardless of the length of visit—must be registered by the proposed hosting faculty or staff member before an invitation is formally extended.
