Retired faculty member David Schiraldi passes away; memorial scheduled Aug. 9

The university community mourns the loss of David Schiraldi, the Peter A. Asseff PhD Professor Emeritus of Organic Chemistry and professor emeritus of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, who passed away July 13.

A former chair of the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, he served Case School of Engineering for 18 years as a researcher, educator and leader. His contributions to the field of aerogels and polymer science earned him national recognition, and his mentorship shaped the careers of students and faculty alike. A passionate supporter of the community outreach program Envoys, Schiraldi created innovative opportunities and opened doors to engineering education for students from underserved communities. 

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 1-3 p.m. at the Fioritto Funeral Home (5236 Mayfield Rd, Lyndhurst).
