Siegal Lifelong Learning Program announces new fall programming

Beginning its second year as part of Case Western Reserve University, the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program once again will offer a wide variety of non-credit programs, providing challenging yet noncompetitive learning opportunities for adults who want to cultivate their ongoing intellectual curiosity. Combining the long-standing Case Western Reserve programs with new courses and distinguished lectures focusing on everything from art and music to religion and politics, there is something for anyone looking to enrich their love of learning. This semester’s program will include the following:

Off-Campus Studies

Offered in collaboration with the Association for Continuing Education, these eight-week courses meet in locations throughout greater Cleveland. There are no written assignments or exams; instead, the classes are designed to provide an open environment for lively discussion, facilitated by leader-teachers. Classes begin Sept. 22. Senior Scholars

An 11-week program that takes place three afternoons a week, the Senior Scholars program features academic lectures by university faculty members and local experts on a variety of topics. Students can take any or all of the following courses: “Justice and the Rule of Law,” “Movie Censorship in the U.S.,” “Japanese Art of the Edo Period” and more. Scholars on the Circle

The Scholars on the Circle program is held in collaboration with University Circle institutions to provide students with behind-the-scenes expertise on a variety of topics. This fall, topics include, “An Introduction to the Cleveland Botanical Garden and its Rare Book Collection,” “University Circle: A Sense of Place,” “Men of Steel: 75 Years of Superman” and more. Autumn in the Country

Autumn in the Country classes take advantage of the beautiful University Farm in Hunting Valley for inspiration and as a setting for learning about nature, cultivation and the environment. This fall take classes on learning to grow your own food, beekeeping, painting the outdoors, photographing nature and more. Jewish Studies

To continue the legacy of Jewish adult education courses that have been offered for nearly nine decades through the Laura and Alvin Siegal College of Judaic Studies and its predecessor institutions, this program offers semester-long courses in Hebrew language, Bible study and Jewish thought, history, culture and literature. The program will also feature a distinguished lecture series that brings world-renowned experts in Jewish studies to engage the Cleveland community. In addition to these offerings, the program will facilitate trips for educational travel to Florida, Poland, The Netherlands, Greece and Turkey.
