Just a few spaces remain in the fall 2017 Books@Work group for faculty and staff. Books@Work is a Cleveland-based nonprofit that uses literature to build crucial workplace skills. The program is more than a book club. With the guidance of a Case Western Reserve University faculty member, the conversations break down barriers and build a work place culture of trust, respect and community. Over the course of 12 Thursdays, the group will discuss three different books.
Feedback from the initial CWRU groups who have taken part has been positive:
- 100 percent said the experience was worthwhile, with 96 percent saying they would recommend the group to a friend;
- At program close, 96 percent said they felt comfortable expressing thoughts that could lead to new ideas in their work environment, compared with 80 percent at program start;
- Similarly, there was an 11 percent increase in participants’ ability to communicate their ideas so that others understand their perspective.
