Social Justice Institute Research Lunch Series: "Collective Punishment in the Occupied-Palestinian Territory"

The Social Justice Institute Research Lunch Series continues with "Collective Punishment in the Occupied-Palestinian Territory" with Avidan Y. Cover, a Social Justice Institute Research Fellow, professor of law and director of the Institute for Global Security Law and Policy. Cover will present his research on the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and how its length, now exceeding 50 years, features permanent elements not found in a "belligerent occupation." He also will discuss some of the social controls in place that he's found violate the law on occupation and prohibition on collective punishment. Cover's talk will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Crawford Hall, Room A09 (ground floor). Attendees should bring their lunches. RSVP to socialjustice@case.edu.

About Cover

Avidan Y. Cover is a professor of law at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law and director of the Institute for Global Security Law & Policy. Cover teaches in the Civil Rights and Human Rights Clinic in the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic Center, where he supervises students representing clients in civil lawsuits primarily in the areas of civil rights, including freedom of speech, unlawful force and housing discrimination as well as documenting human rights abuses. He also teaches courses in constitutional law, race and American law, and international humanitarian law. Cover’s scholarship focuses on human rights, civil rights and national security law.
