U.S. News & World Report: Timothy Black, professor of sociology at the College of Arts and Sciences, said the “middle class” is as much about identity and status as income, but rising costs have eroded the financial security once associated with it. He also noted that middle-class status is often linked to supervisory roles rather than income alone.
