Submit work for the 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. Reflection Competition

Case Western Reserve University is seeking entries for the Martin Luther King Jr. Reflection Competition. Essays, poetry, short stories, art, photography, music and media all will be accepted. The contest is open to students, staff and faculty/administrators from Case Western Reserve University and Cuyahoga Community College. All submissions must be received by Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. First- and second-place winners for staff, students and faculty/administrators will be chosen from the written and non-written expression categories. The awarding of honorable mentions will be at the discretion of the judges. Winners will be invited to read from and discuss their work at the reception and celebration at Kelvin Smith Library Thursday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception and celebration are open to the community. Winners will receive:

• First place: $300 and a copy of one of King’s books
• Second place: $50 gift certificate

Volunteer opportunities

If you are interested in participating but do not have time to submit work for the competition, consider volunteering to help at the reception or serve as a judge. Student, staff and faculty/administrators from both campuses are needed to help judge. Volunteers are also needed to help set up displays and chairs for the reception and take things down after.
