CAMPUS + COMMUNITY | September 12, 2025
STORY BY: EDITORIAL STAFF

In an effort to modernize campus technology, Case Western Reserve University will require software updates for all university devices from Windows 10 support to the Windows 11 version.

This transition ensures all devices remain secure, supported and able to take advantage of the latest features and improvements, including a refreshed experience to help members of the CWRU community work more efficiently while protecting data.

Additional features of Windows 11 include:

  • A cleaner, more modern interface designed to minimize distractions;
  • Improved multitasking with new options for organizing windows and desktops;
  • Better performance and battery life on laptops; and
  • Enhanced security features to help keep your data safe.

What to do before your upgrade

  • Backup your files;
  • Confirm that important documents are stored in Google Drive, OneDrive or another campus-supported cloud service;
  • Restart your device if it hasn’t been rebooted recently; and
  • Keep your laptop plugged in during the upgrade.

Your applications, files and settings will remain available after the process completes.
