Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic have launched a partnership to support a 30-day Hough & Glenville Community Health Competition. Cleveland City Council representatives TJ Dow (Hough–Ward 7) and Kevin Conwell (Glenville–Ward 9) will lead the Healthy Community Initiative.
Residents from both communities will participate in daily walking exercises and weekly health education sessions over a period of 30 days. Residents will be screened as part of the launch on Saturday, July 11. The winning neighborhood will be announced on Aug. 15.
The kickoff event will be Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Fannie Lewis Community Park Area at League Park. The competition will conclude Saturday Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Famicos Farmer’s Market site at the corner of E. 105th Street and Ashbury Avenue.
Case Western Reserve faculty, staff and students who live in these neighborhoods are encouraged to be part of the challenge.
In addition, volunteers are needed in the following areas:
- Two Case Western Reserve guest speakers are needed to provide a 30-minute health education session with residents. The speakers will present during the week of July 27 or Aug. 3. Topics of interest include hypertension/stroke; nutrition/diet; and diabetes/smoking cessation.
- Health screening evaluators are needed to compile health screening results of participants, which will be utilized to announce the winning neighborhood.
