Volunteering at the Cleveland Food Bank with WISER
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is recruiting volunteers to assist at our Community Resource Center’s Healthy Choice Food Market.
The GCFB Community Resource Center`s Healthy Choice Food Market is a choice food market which allows neighbors to select their own food instead of receiving a pre-packed or standard bag of groceries. With this method, neighbors do not have to take items they already have, do not like, or cannot eat for health or personal reasons.
Each day, volunteers help us serve hundreds of our neighbors at the market. Because of this, volunteers interested in helping at the market should be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Volunteer Duties Include:
- Assisting neighbors with shopping and item selection in the market.
- Assisting neighbors with loading their vehicles with food, as needed.
- Accepting retail product donations, weighing product, and recording the donation.
- Organizing and consolidating product onto pallets and into bins to make product look presentable for neighbors.
- Consolidating spoiled or damaged items for removal from the market.
- Removing excess cardboard, bins and boxes.
- Sweeping and mopping as needed.
- Assisting neighbors as needed.
This event will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, from noon to 2 p.m. at the GCFB Community Resource Center.
