Weatherhead alumni enjoy vow renewal celebration

We're grateful to everyone who was able to join us on May 30 for the Weatherhead School of Management Bicentennial Couples Celebration and Vow Renewal Ceremony on campus. As part of Case Western Reserve University’s Bicentennial, it was a privilege to gather and honor the relationships that began here—or were shaped here—and that have endured across time.

Dean Andrew Medvedev, who officiated the ceremony, reminded us that while Weatherhead is known for ideas, innovation and impact, some of the most meaningful outcomes of this community are deeply human. The connections formed in classrooms, study groups, student organizations, late‑night conversations and unexpected moments often become the relationships that carry us forward through life. This celebration was not about perfection, but about presence, renewal and appreciating what gives life to our partnerships.

Through the lens of Appreciative Inquiry—born at Weatherhead—we reflected on the importance of noticing what is working, honoring strengths and building the future from those foundations. Professor Ron Fry’s remarks invited us to do just that, encouraging reflection on the power of positive emotion, meaningful questions and shared stories to sustain enduring partnerships. Together, these reflections reminded us that commitment is not a single moment, but a practice—one shaped by curiosity, intention and the choice to keep learning from one another.

The stories shared throughout the day—of chance meetings in elevators, study groups that became first dates, weddings held mid‑MBA programs and relationships that grew through learning, work and life—captured the heart of this celebration. Each story was different, yet all spoke to the same truth: relationships begin in many ways, but what matters most is how they grow.

As we marked this moment together, we were reminded that Weatherhead and Case Western Reserve University have always been about more than knowledge alone. They are places where connection, growth, and community take root—and where relationships, both personal and professional, continue to flourish long after graduation.
