Barron's: Jonathan Ernest, assistant professor of economics at Weatherhead School of Management, said tariffs on imported cocoa products make U.S. chocolate makers less competitive than European firms, sometimes making it cheaper to import finished chocolate instead. Still, he noted, most Americans will keep buying Halloween candy—they just might offer less of it or smaller portions.
