U.S. News & World Report: Mark Schweitzer, associate professor of economics at Weatherhead School of Management, said that while eliminating the penny saves some government costs, it will have “essentially no impact” at all. “Part of what the government would gain with losing the penny will be offset with losses in the increased number of nickels we would need,” Schweitzer said.
