Fall 2025 first-year students: Helpful tools for course registration

It’s almost time to register for classes. We are excited for you to start your academic journey at Case Western Reserve University.

Course registration opens Tuesday, July 22 at 9 a.m. Eastern and will close on Thursday, July 24 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Keep in mind that registration is a process. Classes begin Monday, August 25, and there is plenty of time to work with your four-year advisor as needed if issues arise.

Review the information below to ensure a successful first-semester registration at CWRU.

  1. Act to remove any pre-registration holds in SIS. Prior to registration, confirm that any holds have been removed from your account by viewing the “Tasks” tile in SIS. If you have a hold, use the links below for instructions on how to lift that hold.
  2. Review follow-up guidance from your four-year advisor. After your four-year advisor meeting, you received a summary email to your CWRU email account listing the courses to enroll in this fall. In addition to the First-Year Course Selection Guide, you should review this email before registering for courses.
  3. Confirm that AP, IB and/or approved transfer credit is posted as you expected. You can check this in SIS in the “Grades and History” tile, and then click “Course History.” Incoming credit must be posted in order to advance to the next-level course. If you believe you have official AP or IB credit that is missing, first confirm that you have submitted your official scores to CWRU. You can then follow up with your four-year advisor for further support.
  4. Review your Academic Inquiry Seminar (AIQS) semester placement and options. You are assigned to take your AIQS in either your first or second semester, based on which 0-credit placeholder appears on your schedule in SIS.  If your Academic Inquiry is this Spring, plan to take a breadth course.
  5. Build and validate your Shopping Cart to double check for date/time conflicts or pre/co-requisite issues. Watch the SIS overview video to see how.
  6. Log in on July 22 and enroll. When registration opens at 9 a.m. Eastern, return to your Shopping Cart in SIS and click “enroll” to process your registration. After registration, return to your Roadmap to mark the “Course Registration” task complete.
    • Remember: During registration, high demand courses like BIOL 214 and PHYS 121 may close. For most students, these courses can be taken in the spring semester without impact on intended graduation.

Due to scheduled maintenance, SIS will be unavailable to all users at the end of the day, Friday, July 25, until Monday, July 28. During this time, you will not be able to log in to SIS to view your schedule or other student details.
