Applying for first-year housing at Case Western Reserve University is an easy process. The housing application goes live on your Roadmap on Thursday, October 29, at 7 p.m. Eastern. You need to complete the housing application or submit a Housing Release Request to commute from home, if eligible. Students are eligible to commute from home only if they plan to live at their parents' permanent home address, within 40 miles of campus.
Overview of the housing application
- Housing application: This is the official application that indicates that you will be living on campus. On this application, you will choose your meal plan option, indicate roommate and building preferences, and agree to the terms and conditions of the Residence Hall Agreement. The application deadline for incoming first-year students is November 25.
- Vaccination status statement: Ohio Revised Code section 1713.55 requires that every student submit a statement on their vaccination status for meningitis and hepatitis B before they can live on campus. The form must be submitted online before you can continue working on the housing application.
- Lifestyle characteristics: These four questions about your lifestyle are here to help you find a compatible roommate or assist us in matching you with a student who shares similar answers.
- Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH): The Gender-Inclusive Housing program is an option that allows students to live in housing not based on residents’ sex. For more information, please visit our website regarding Gender-Inclusive Housing.
First-year room preferences
Almost all first-year students live in a double room with a roommate in one of our first-year communities. You will be asked to list each community in priority order. You can also list your preference for a single or double room. Single rooms are very limited, so students should expect to be placed in a double room. You can also list a preferred roommate if you know another first-year student. Roommate requests are subject to space availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Medical accommodations
If you have a medical condition that you feel requires a specific medical accommodation, please contact Disability Resources to discuss what medical documentation you are required to provide to their office. Disability Resources informs the Office of Residential Living and Learning of all approved medical accommodations, and we will note all students’ needs in our database. If a student is given an accommodation for a single room, we will assign the student before other room assignments are made. For more information, please visit the website about Medical Accommodations.
Housing assignments
Students who apply by the November 25 priority deadline will receive a housing assignment on or before Tuesday, December 22. Assignments will be sent to your case.edu email address and listed in MyHousing under MyAssignments, along with information about your roommate and your on-campus mailing address. In most cases, assignments will be released to students in batches, based on the date of their application being submitted.
Spring move-in
New students will move in Wednesday, January 6, starting at 9 a.m. Eastern.
