To our Faculty, Staff, Postdocs and Students,
Overnight, a group of individuals vandalized multiple buildings, structures and artwork on our campus with paint and glued posters, some of which included what the university considers antisemitic language or symbols. Our facilities staff has been working since early this morning to clear the vandalism, repair the damage and restore our campus.
We strongly condemn the actions of these individuals and are investigating the incidents. Any individual found to have been involved in vandalizing our campus will be subject to the relevant university conduct process and criminal charges. If you have any information on who might have conducted this vandalism, please contact 216.368.3300. To provide information anonymously, you can use the Integrity Hotline by calling 1.866.483.9367 or report it online.
Additionally, as I have noted on numerous occasions, Case Western Reserve University is committed to freedom of expression and the free exchange of ideas, but we don’t tolerate language that is threatening, intimidating, antisemitic or Islamophobic. We also do not tolerate vandalism of university property.
As a reminder, students who are distressed may connect with Talk Now (through TimelyCare) for immediate mental health support at any time, or they can schedule a same- or next-day mental health visit with University Health & Counseling Services through myhealthconnect.case.edu. Benefits-eligible faculty and staff have access to Impact Solutions for free, confidential, around-the-clock support.
I want to thank our Facilities team for their quick response to restoring our campus and Public Safety for handling this important investigation.
Sincerely,
Eric W. Kaler
President
