About the Program

Gains hands-on experience to provide high-quality anesthesia care across a variety of clinical settings at Case Western Reserve University with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesia degree, administered by the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. 

Led by experts in the field of nurse anesthesia, our program offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers advanced practices, patient safety and healthcare policy. Throughout the program, you’ll also have an opportunity to gain mentorship and guidance by our experienced faculty members. 

Additionally, the management of emergency operations, obstetrics, pediatrics and neurosurgery serve as an integral part of your clinical experience. 

What to Expect

The Doctor of Nursing Practice in Anesthesia program emphasizes the development of leadership skills and the ability to implement evidence-based care. 

As a student of our program, you’ll learn to conduct evidence based projects that can improve anesthesia practices and patient outcomes under the supervision of experienced nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists, which will ensure that you’re well-prepared for the demands of your profession. 

You’ll also take part in administering general and regional anesthesia, as you work one-on-one with a clinical preceptor.

Beyond the Classroom

As a Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing student, you’ll have access to a variety of modern laboratories, such as our Center for Nursing Education, Center for Nursing Education, Simulation and Innovation, Centers of Excellence and others. 

Graduates of the DNP in Anesthesia program are also eligible to take the examination administered by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.

Admission Requirements

If you wish to pursue this program, you’ll need Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent degree. Additionally, all applicants must have one of more years of recent critical care experience with specialty certification. 

When reviewing your profile for admission consideration, we also require the following: 

  • Completed online application
  • Current resume or CV
  • Three letters of recommendation (one reference must be from a current nurse manager or assistant nurse manager)
  • Essay 

Applications for our program are due June 1 for entry the following year.
