Woodhill-Buckeye Choice Neighborhoods Initiative

Picture of a circle of people in a big room

In 2021, the Woodhill Homes were selected for a HUD grant under the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative program. The grant provided catalytic funding for the 487-unit Woodhill Homes public housing estate owned by the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) to be transformed to privately operated housing, with a mix of affordable and market-rate units. Our decades of research into mixed-income housing and experience with past public housing transformation projects set the stage for our involvement with this mixed-income transformation in our own city.

Since then, NP3 has served as the lead coordinator for the Woodhill-Buckeye Choice Neighborhoods Initiative redevelopment project, working in concert with CMHA, The Community Builders (TCB), the City of Cleveland, and many other organizational and neighborhood partners to oversee the transformation. As the transformation continues and our work expands more broadly into the Greater Buckeye neighborhood, we continue to aspire to keep Woodhill legacy residents at the center of the redevelopment process and to co-create a community in which all residents can thrive.
