Finding a Research Position

  • Connect with Faculty: Review faculty research profiles, read about their work, and email professors whose research interests you. Briefly introduce yourself, share your interests, and note if you’re seeking research for pay, credit, or as a volunteer.
  • Use the Undergraduate Research Office (URO): Attend info sessions, watch on-demand resources, or schedule an appointment through My Journey for personalized guidance.
  • Ask Your Peers: Many CWRU students participate in research—friends and classmates are a great source of leads and recommendations.
  • Stay Informed: Check the CWRU Newsroom, campus postings, events, and seminars to learn about new research opportunities and connect with faculty.

Programs and Funding

Summer research offers valuable, hands-on experience—whether working in labs, exploring archives, or advancing a capstone project—often leading to conference presentations or publications. For questions about off-campus programs, research abroad, or funding, please visit the Undergraduate Research Office (URO) or email ugresearch@case.edu.

The Undergraduate Research Office offers competitive, merit-based summer funding for current CWRU undergraduate students only who are pursuing faculty-mentored research or creative projects.

Please note that funding for this cycle has now closed.

When applying, students need to already have an identified faculty mentor and project idea. Project ideas do NOT need to be independent; many students work on faculty-led projects, especially in STEM and social science fields. Independent projects are also welcome, with the support of a faculty mentor.

Many opportunities for research and creative endeavors are available on the CWRU campus every summer for both CWRU and non-CWRU/visiting students. Students take the opportunity to carry out independent projects full-time under the supervision of a faculty mentor, often in conjunction with their senior capstone projects. In addition, professors often recruit students to participate in their research projects.
