Weatherhead School of Management Unveils 2020 Strategic Plan: Destination Weatherhead

Destination Weatherhead, Linking Our Legacy to Our Future

The Weatherhead School of Management's 2020 strategic plan, titled Destination Weatherhead: Linking Our Legacy To Our Future, was completed in May 2020 after a diligent 10-month process that sought input from a diverse group of stakeholders including alumni, students, faculty and staff. Focusing on the school's strengths while also aligning with Case Western Reserve University's "Think Big" strategic plan, the plan looks to leverage the school's excellence from Appreciative Inquiry to Artificial Intelligence.

Destination Weatherhead plan states that the school will focus its initial strategic initiatives on management of the health care vertical and excellence in analytics and data-driven management. It redefines the school’s mission, vision and values while carefully outlining its four “pillars” or goals to achieve in the next decade. Each pillar includes objectives, actions and measures intended to serve as a guideline for achievement and success. The pillars are:

  • Imparting Market-Focused Education: Deliver vibrant, agile, market-aligned degree programs, majors and executive education offerings that consistently place our graduates at the forefront of their fields and advance our alumni’s lifelong learning.
  • Engaging in Research of Enduring Consequence: Be highly recognized for research that matters to the academic, business and alumni communities.
  • Building a Distinctive Brand: Be recognized globally as the place for a lifetime of advancement in management education.
  • Fostering a Diverse and Inclusive Environment: Provide an environment and culture where our faculty, staff, students and alumni work inclusively in research, service and teaching.

“We are thrilled to begin our Destination Weatherhead journey,” said Manoj Malhotra, dean of the Weatherhead School of Management. “The strategic initiatives were developed to push the boundaries, stay connected to the current and future needs of the marketplace and create a diverse, lifelong learning community of students and alumni. We are confident that the new strategic focus areas and goals outlined will help us reclaim our rightful place among the nation’s elite centers of management education.”

Most recently, the school assigned one faculty/staff pairing to each pillar to continue momentum and strategically carry out the implementation of the plan, with the goal to report on progress of the assigned focus areas by the end of the academic year.
