Welcome to Campus! Here are Information Technology
Services' latest
offerings for Fall, 2008:
Adobe Connect offers interactive web meetings and virtual classroom
experiences with the simple click of your mouse. These experiences,
available to anyone, anywhere, are engaging, multimedia rich, and easy to
use. Distance is no longer an issue! To get started, simply login to http://connect.case.edu with your Case
network id and password. For more information, see http://teach.case.edu/connect/.
Case Google Apps is a collaboration suite of services that includes a
case.edu email account, a calendar, a customizable start page, the ability
to share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and a team sharing/web
authoring site. For more information on signing up, go to
http://www.case.edu/its/services/GoogleApps.htm.
MediaVision Courseware 2.0 is here! There have been a number of changes
to the courseware interface, many of which were implemented as a result of
faculty and student feedback. Significant changes include a new "pod"
architecture that allows all course content to be viewed without having to
go through multiple layers, and all of the media players have been
consolidated into a single Flash-based player, resulting in better quality
at faster speeds. See
http://courseware.case.edu for more about Courseware, now used in 55
courses at Case.
There are currently 175 Technology Enhanced Classrooms in use throughout
the Case Campus. Six more are scheduled to come online for the Spring, 2009
semester.
Docshare, a document sharing application, allows users to share documents
between multiple users and multiple computers. Files can be manipulated
using a simple web interface, or by mounting your docshare folders as remote
folders on your computer. See
http://wiki.case.edu/Docshare for more information.
The Software Center continues to offer current software titles (Microsoft
Office, Symantec End Point Solution, Adobe Acrobat Professional 9, etc.) to
all faculty, staff and students, with most at no charge. In addition, the
Software Center has entered into a “Student Licensing Enrollment” agreement
with Adobe, providing Case Western Reserve University students the ability
to purchase Adobe software at deep discounts, amounting to as much as 85%
below retail price. Details are online at http://softwarecenter.case.edu.
Spark Instant Messenger is the preferred instant messaging client for the
Case campus. It features built-in support for group chat, and strong
security. It also offers a great end-user experience with features like
in-line spell checking, group chat rooms, and tabbed conversations. See http://www.case.edu/its/im/ for
more information.
The Campus portal (http://my.case.edu)
is the gateway through which you can access many campus and off-campus
services and information in one convenient location. Best of all, you can
customize it to suit your particular needs, and have your content available
to you anywhere, anytime you are connected to the internet!
ITS recommends Carbonite
http://case.carbonite.com for Case desktop and laptop backup services.
Carbonite provides unlimited storage capacity and the secure, automatic
backup of files on your desktop or laptop computer whenever the computer is
connected to the internet. A version for the Mac is expected this fall.
ITS is committed to Case Western Reserve University’s Sustainability
Program. See our special "Green” newsletter and submit your thoughts and ideas on to our online suggestion
